Ballerina Farm X Cushendale

Ballerina Farm X Cushendale

At Cushendale, we strive to be authentic and maintain our deep roots, so when Hannah and Daniel, founders of Ballerina Farm, knocked on our door, we were more than thrilled.

Ballerina Farm is nestled in the rolling valleys of Utah, where Hannah, Daniel and their family live on a farm in tune with nature and seasons. Over the last few years, they have used their online presence to inspire others to embrace a slower life in connection with one's surroundings.

Building meaningful relationships with both our farmers and customers is something we deeply value, so working with Ballerina Farm felt like a natural fit. With the launch of the Ballerina Farm Blanket, we want to share a glimpse into our partnership, one that began and grew in the most genuine way.

The Introductions

On a January day in Graiguenamanagh, we had the pleasure of welcoming Hannah, Daniel, and their family for a tour of the mill. That Saturday, the mill was alive with energy and curiosity. Miriam guided our visitors through each stage of the process, from the carding machine and looms to the washroom and warp, before finishing at our cherished spinning mule. Along the way, Miriam shared stories of the past and the rhythms of mill life today.

A favourite moment was seeing the children gather around Philip’s nearly 80-year-old baby shoe (5th generation). Their genuine fascination with our history, heritage, and craftsmanship was a joy to witness.

The Making Of

Soon after their visit, the creative process began; exploring design options, colours, and feel to craft a bespoke Irish blanket: The Ballerina Farm Blanket. Hannah and Daniel fell in love with our bespoke Rowan Green, aptly named after the green leaves of the Rowan Tree, indigenous to Ireland. What better colour to capture their memories of Ireland? From dyeing, warping and weaving to washing and final quality checks, this throw is crafted to the high quality standards we maintain.

As the team worked away in the mill, bringing this beautiful throw to life, Miriam had the opportunity to meet members of the Ballerina Farm Store team in New York. Our meeting confirmed what a great fit we were for each other and the excitement grew. What an adventure it was to witness this throw come together and be completed with the final touch, the Ballerina Farm x Cushendale label, a symbol of our shared values.
